Welcome back to the Lonestar Project Diary! This installment: the wonderful Brandermill Deck job! This was an amazing opportunity for us to remodel a gorgeous deck in Brandermill (which happens to overlook the lake).
As you can tell from our Facebook posts and email, homeowners throughout Richmond and Charlottesville were calling us like crazy to talk about new decks, porches and sun-rooms. We are proud of our growing reputation for top quality installations of these sorts of exterior projects, and welcome the opportunity to speak with you should you see fit! Now… on to the project!
Background on The Brandermill Deck Project
Our customers first heard about Lonestar in our monthly Valpak mailing! After checking out our reputations, reviews and products/services online, they called to schedule an initial consultation.
We love when our customers do this sort of research in advance! We take tremendous pride in our reputation, so we know when a customer researches online and find us….this is our kind of customer!
Consultation, Analysis, and Proposal
Our future clients had an awesome deck and railing renovation in mind. They wanted to completely resurface their deck with all new decking boards while updating their railings to create a whole new aesthetic for their deck at the same time.
When we arrived at their beautiful home in Brandermill, we quickly agreed that they needed to have their deck resurfaced. However, due to the age of the deck, we knew that we would also need to inspect all of the joists and other structural components for any damage once the old decking boards came off. Our customer’s safety is paramount to us! In every remodeling project, we make sure that the structural components are safe and sound before installing the new materials. Further examination lead us to discover that their existing steps were weak and inadequate and should be replaced during this process.
After discussing several options, our customers chose our premium treated lumber decking boards and steps (after all – there is nothing quite the same as real wood!) The decision for railings was easy – they chose our Westbury aluminum railing system!
Taking all the factors into account, we proposed a project cost and timeline and they accepted! Now the fun begins…
Step 1: Demo + Prep Work
We started the project in June, with one of our favorite parts – demolition! After removing the railings, we meticulously removed our client’s old decking boards. We took extra care in this step so we could examine the structural components of the deck. Fortunately, the structural integrity was in great shape! We only needed some additional flashing before laying the new decking boards.
Step 2: Laying the Boards
This large, wrap-around deck features a picturesque view of the Swift Creek Reservoir, which made this job all that much more satisfying! We installed the new boards and made minor updates to the structural components, in order to ensure this deck provided years of enjoyment for our happy clients. With the major part of the job finished, we were able to take care of the railings quickly!
Step 3: Wrap It Up!
We completed this particular Brandermill Deck project in early July. The homeowners were completely thrilled with the final product!
We think you’ll agree with our clients when you take a look at the finished pictures below!
